Jewelry Care
Investing in jewelry designed to last forever is akin to any long-term relationship—a certain amount of maintenance is required to ensure things stay shiny. But when it comes to jewelry, there is (thankfully) an easy equation for success. Be gentle and consistent with your care and your heirloom pieces will sparkle for years to come.
First, let’s talk metals.
14-KARAT GOLD
A popular choice for its balance and beauty, gold is decadent however, can be delicate. Whether you’ve inherited an heirloom, invested in a one-of-a-kind adornment, or have a sensitivity to certain metals - gold jewelry can maintain its timeless shine with regular care.
STERLING SILVER
Composed of 92.5% pure silver, sterling is prized for its durability and versatility with the abillity to create a dark patina. Fortunately, most Lulu pieces are available in sterling silver.
GOLD FILLED
For a luxurious look sans the price tag, gold filled jewelry is your new BFF. This bonded metal consists of a thin layer of 14 karat gold over a brass core, creating a dynamic duo with an everlasting gold finish.
YELLOW BRONZE
Although all metal is prone to a little tarnish over time, our special formula of yellow bronze contains an oxidation-resistant component embedded within the alloy. This unique blend offers a golden alternative that cleans and shines as if it was solid gold.
CLEANING TIPS
AVOID THE FIVE S's
Sleep. Shower. Sweat. Swim, Sprays.
The S’s can cause surfaces to wear and fade, resulting in unwanted dulling or fading.
Clean pieces with warm water for basic care using a soft toothbrush to remove any buildup between chain links and stone settings.
A polishing cloth shines surfaces by removing tarnish to return metals back to its original luster.
JEWELRY FOAM CLEANER
Prepare for the jewelry cleaning process with the following materials: two bowls designated for soaking and rinsing; a soft microfiber cloth along with a hairdryer for thorough drying, and a jewelry cloth for final polishing.
TO USE:
- Submerge the jewelry in hot water to loosen dirt.
- Apply one to two pumps of Lavish foam cleaner letting soak for 1 minute then using a soft-bristled brush to scrub between crevices.
- Rinse in clean warm water until all traces of soap are removed.
- Transfer to microfiber towel to remove and remaining moisture and dry as much as possible.
- Use hairdryer on a low setting to fully dry in order to prevent oxidation from residual moisture.
- Finish by polishing non-plated metals with a jeweler's cloth.
- Wear with love.
JEWELRY POLISHING CLOTH
A jewelry polishing cloth is recommended for use on gold, sterling silver, platinum, gold-fill, and non-plated jewelry.
TO USE:
- Use the inner white cloth to remove tarnish.
- Follow with the outer gray cloth to buff, shine, and restore metal.
Note: Avoid using on porous stones such as pearl, turquoise, opal, or lapis
